Although Ghana is one of the more economically and politically stable countries in Africa, the high unemployment rate, particularly among young people at the start of their careers, remains a significant challenge. This issue is especially acute in rural areas, leading to the migration of young people to urban areas where they face new challenges such as gentrification and extreme rental prices. During our analysis of the agricultural sector in Ghana, we came across the NGO Extramile, which has helped transform an entire region in eastern Ghana into the country's leading honey-producing area through the promotion of beekeeping. Together with the traditional chief of the Nkwanta region, Nana David, Extramile enabled young people to gain access to beekeeping through professional training. Over the years, this initiative has grown into a cooperative with 3,000 beehives, providing many families in the region with a small but stable income. Building on this successful model, we funded a project that was carried out in collaboration with our partner, the Amediewu Honey Foundation. In a region particularly affected by youth unemployment, we organized a beekeeping training program, in which 30 young people successfully participated. The project is now complete, and we are pleased that it has contributed to creating new income opportunities for the participants and strengthening the local economy.
