In the heart of Laos, on the banks of the picturesque Nam Ou River, lies the small village of Tien Khien. Here, about an hour by boat from Nong Khiaw, is a primary school that offers 87 children a chance at education. During a visit in January, it became clear that the schoolyard, a large, open space, remained unused. The children often used their breaks to read their books and talk to each other. Inspired by the idea of bringing more joy and movement into the children's school day, the "Playing Strong in Laos" project was born. Based on a long-standing and trusting partnership with our local contact, a list of sports equipment was compiled to be made available to the children during their breaks. As a non-profit aid organization, we bear the costs for these materials ourselves. This includes nets for volleyball and badminton, soccer and volleyballs, badminton sets, jump ropes, and even tracksuits. The procurement and transport of the materials pose a challenge due to the complex infrastructure in Laos. However, we are confident that the sports equipment will soon find its way to the school. Our goal is to enable the children to have healthy physical development and a strong sense of community through sports and play. We firmly believe that providing these materials will have a positive impact on their lives. "Playing Strong in Laos" is more than just a project – it is an investment in the future of these children. We want to give them the opportunity to actively shape their breaks, strengthen their social skills, and improve their physical fitness. We are grateful for the close cooperation with our local partner, who significantly supports this project through his knowledge and commitment on the ground. Together, we can contribute to ensuring that the children in Tien Khien go strong into their future through play.
Through targeted funding, we have significantly supported the successful completion of these projects.
