The Humla region, located in the far northwest of Nepal and bordering Tibet/China, is one of the most disadvantaged and least developed areas in the country. Here, people live under the simplest conditions, relying on sparse agriculture. The high-altitude terrain, influenced by Buddhism and Hinduism, is rarely visited by tourists. Due to the minimal infrastructure, basic medical care facilities are often several days' walk away. A critical issue is the high maternal mortality rate. In a global comparison, Nepal ranks 140th, behind countries such as Afghanistan and Myanmar. Traditionally, women are considered "impure" until childbirth, leading them to often give birth to their children at home under very basic conditions. These circumstances contribute to a child mortality rate in this region that is still higher today than in North Korea. "The Nepal Trust" is the only local non-governmental organization (NGO) that has been active in this 5,500 square kilometer area for approximately 30 years, working to reduce child mortality and simultaneously improve the medical care of the population. Through their sustainable health program and the establishment of eight clinics to date, they contribute to the strengthening of local communities. As a result, at least a basic supply of medication is ensured for each of the approximately 32,000 inhabitants of this remote region. With your commitment, we would like to support "The Nepal Trust" for the next seven years in their "Mother-Child Health Program".
Through targeted funding, we have significantly supported the successful completion of these projects.
