Due to the primarily subsistence-based way of life, the people of Nepal are highly dependent on agricultural productivity and thus on climatic conditions. The high altitudes make it difficult to access the groundwater level, which, with a rainy season from June to September, is of great importance for the rest of the year in terms of agriculture and thus food security. The village of Dhuksun is located 58 km northeast of Kathmandu in the Bagmati zone and at an altitude difference of 230 m. Due to Dhuksun's location its agriculture output is severely affected by the water supply problem. Outside the rainy season, long distances have to be covered to obtain water. Engineers without Borders has taken up this challenge. In the project developed by Engineers without Borders, a water supply system is being built that will transport water from a spring 4 km away to the village of Dhuksun, where it will be temporarily stored. Subsequently, the water can then be accessed at 12 designated points. The water supply system consists of an extraction structure, a pipeline and a sedimentation basin and is optimally adapted to the site conditions. It ends in 12 access points and supplies 96 individual households and their farms. Some project phases have already been completed. Thanks to you, we were finally able to support the village of Dhuskun with a sustainable water supply system.
