Around 21.6% of the Philippine population lives below the poverty line. Despite a growing economy, the island nation is one of the countries in Asia with the most enduring history of poverty. More than half of the 100 million inhabitants live in rural areas. This reality often curtails dreams of a better future. Due to the poor financial situation, it is difficult for many children to complete 4 years of elementary school, let alone attend university. The British aid organization "Children of the Mekong" has made it their goal to break the vicious cycle of poverty and to increase access to higher education. The Dumaguete centre caters to 30 young men and women, aged 16 to 23, who come from the countryside or economically depressed regions and moved to the city to earn a college degree."Children of the Mekong" covers all costs (accommodation, food, pocket money, sports activities) in addition to the tuition fees. Besides, a caring supervisory team contributes to the personal development of each individual to become an independent and responsible adult. Your donation supports "Children of the Mekong" to not provide a nurturing environment, but also to help make the children's dreams come true.
